Toast of the Townby Savita TaylorAtlanta technical communicators were the toast of the town at the second Technical Communication Advisory Board (TCAB) mixer of the year. Alumni, faculty, and friends of the TCOM programs at Southern Poly gathered at Toast restaurant to mingle and exchange ideas. Faculty members learned how former students are applying their Southern Poly education in their careers, which represented a broad spectrum of industries. From government agencies to software and Internet companies to nonprofit organizations, it was clear our professional skills are valuable throughout the working world. The event was not only a great time to catch up with old friends, it was also a wonderful opportunity to brush up on those important networking skills. I personally got to meet Leigh Richardson, new president of the Atlanta STC chapter. We initially met via email a few weeks prior, and it was great to meet face-to-face for the first time and share even more ideas. It was a relaxed atmosphere and nice way to unwind after a long day at work. If you missed the mixer, don't worry; another one is already in the works. Make sure to check back with T-COMmons for our next event. |
