Reception
Isaac Jones with Atlanta STC members | This event featured a gamecard which everyone
received as they arrived for the reception. The gamecard featured
questions related to cities where there are STC Chapters. The idea of the
game was to go around and meet other STC members and ask questions to find
out answers to the questions. Prizes awarded to 10 game winners included
vendor T-shirts, book bags and Atlanta STC souvenir cookbooks.
The
gamecard and banner artwork was designed by SPSU’s own Yilan Jin. Yilan
won a contest from four design finalists in Dr. Betty Oliver’s Applied
Graphics class. The STC members from around the USA and the world were
very impressed with Yilan’s work and many positive comments were made
about this. The reception was a huge success and Yilan design really
helped put Atlanta’s best foot forward. SPSU’s Tamara Henry also helped
setup and decorate for the reception and greeted guests as they arrived.
SPSU
students Tamara Herman, Yilan Jin, and Utoia Mims also helped man the STC
Atlanta Hospitality Booth throughout the conference. They gave out
brochures and information about Atlanta and answered visitors’ questions.
For volunteering at the Summit, students were allowed to attend conference
educational sessions free of charge. They did an excellent job and really
benefitted from being involved with the Summit and meeting professional
technical communicators.
SPSU
graduate, Yina Li (now employed by Horizon International Software), was a
co presenter at the conference with Dr. Carol Barnum. The two presented at an
educational session on Translation, Localization, and Usability: Chinese
Website Usability Study. This session presented the results
of a usability study of an international hotel’s Chinese website.
Included were the results of a heuristic evaluation and a usability
test with bilingual English/Chinese speakers
.
